About Willow Boutique
We are Nicole Forrest and Gayle Blair and are co-owners of Willow Boutique in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. We sell beautiful, organic babywear, wooden toys, nursery decor and gifts for children and women. Many of our suppliers are small businesses like ourselves which we love to support and vice versa.
Nicole’s from Perth, Australia but has called Edinburgh her home since 2001 and Gayle’s from Dunblane, Perthshire but moved to Edinburgh in 2003. Our lives crossed paths in 2007 when I (Gayle) joined the retail company Nicole was working for. Nine years and two children each later we decided to go for it and open our own shop.
On Sunday 28th August 2016 Willow Boutique opened it’s doors for the first time. This was perhaps a crazy summer to do this as I (Gayle) got married that July and my first born started school on the day we signed the lease but we did it! We bought the shop as an existing business (and a detail I’ve missed out is the fact that this was the shop Nicole was Manager of when we first met). We had very clear ideas of how we wanted the shop to look, firstly changing it’s name and managed to co-ordinate joiners, painters and partners to turn the shop around in a week! Our branding has been very clear from the beginning. Painting the shop exterior a beautiful charcoal grey with white window frames to the soft grey interior walls, one being a feature wall with the most beautiful Laura Ashley wallpaper. Crisp white furniture throughout adds to the style and simplistic look we were aiming to achieve allowing our colourful products to stand out. Every purchase is wrapped in soft grey tissue paper.
We’ve had such a great response from customers far and wide and fellow neighbouring retailers and our social media is as important as our bricks and mortar. We don’t have a website yet but that is part of the plan. In the meantime, if somebody sees something they ‘must’ buy, we just ping them a paypal invoice and once paid, post goods out to them.
We have plans to have a bit of a refurbishment in the next couple of weeks and to introduce new brands so we’re looking forward to a slightly different, fresh look.
Looking forward to meeting like-minded businesses within the Mama Tribe community.
