A couple of weeks ago, my family did something that we would never normally do: we had a family photography session. I realise that, for a lot of people, this is a relatively normal part of family life but, for whatever reason, we’ve always been a bit shy about being in front of the camera, apart from on our wedding day or after a few cocktails. This has resulted, of course, in zero photos of our family where all four of us are together. I think a lot of Mamas will relate to that feeling of having no photos of them with their brood, but a smart phone absolutely full of photos of everyone else in their family! Apart from the odd dodgy selfie or random pic that my husband has managed to snap, this was definitely the case for me.
Until February when one Saturday morning Mama Tribe member Danielle Reeder, owner of , came over and snapped away, whilst we were in the comfort of our own home. From the outset, Danni was amazing; her calm, friendly manner instantly put all of us at ease, even our two year old, who spent the initial 20 minutes sat on Danni’s lap and investigating her camera bag! Danni is so friendly and bubbly; it was impossible to feel ‘false’ or nervous in front of the camera.
Danni’s style is very much relaxed, natural, family photography. She specialises in pregnancy, birth and family photos, so was the obvious choice for us, as I’ve recently given birth to our second daughter (she was five weeks old when the pics were taken). Also, I loved the idea of being at home and wearing ‘normal’ (maternity – ha!) clothes. We didn’t feel trussed up or uncomfortable at all and it’s amazing how Danni has managed to capture the feeling of bringing a new baby into the home through her lens. When you have a new baby you don’t want to have the stress of a long journey or day out after not much sleep, so to be at home on a sunny, wintery morning was just perfect for us.
Within a couple of days of the shoot, Danni sent over the photos via email with a personal login to her website so that we could view them. I’m not ashamed to admit that I had a little cry when I saw them! It’s quite emotional and empowering seeing your family so happy and feeling the love through the lens, and we are so grateful that she was able to come and capture this moment of our life for us. The pictures will be lovely for the girls to look back on, too; not like the staged ones that we had done in shopping centres in the 80s as kids!
We’ve had a gorgeous parcel through the post with some of our photos printed out for us, as well as a stylish memory stick for us to store all of the pics digitally. The products are beautifully designed and of a really high quality.
Danni is based in Somerset and works throughout the south west; I honestly cannot recommend her enough. If you are reading this and thinking “I don’t have any lovely photos of my children and I!”, then you should contact her. You can find her in the Mama Tribe Brand Directory under ‘Photographers’. Thank you to Mama Tribe for making it so easy for me to find her; what a brilliant hub of women in business.
