Tell us about the Services you offer?
Clear Desk is changing its services from January 2020, where the main focus will be purely Digital Content Creation.
This will include everything copy-related, from email marketing campaigns, website copy, social media copywriting and scheduling, document support and anything digital content related. Having offered a catch-all VA approach for the first year of business, I’m hugely excited about offering my clients the very best of me to support them with the content for their businesses.
What do you love about running your own business and what do you find hard?
I adore working for myself, it’s the best! I love working flexibly around my young family but this is, also, one of the hardest things as – we all know – sometimes life gets in the way and the juggle can feel all too real.
I absolutely love the community of self-employed women who I work for and collaborate with. They are the dream virtual staff room! I, also, just love working from home. It’s ideal for me and I wouldn’t change that for the world. Who wouldn’t love working in your lounge wear?!
What surprising lessons have you learned along the way?
For me, I’ve surprised myself in my confidence when it comes to sales. Coming from an education background, I’ve never really sold anything before and I was worried about the connotation of being “salesy”, when I started. Actually, this is one of my strengths, I think, which has definitely been a surpise – a pleasant one!
What’s next for your business?
From January 2020 I am honing my services to offer purely digital content creation and all-things copywriting. Writing (and reading!) is a passion of mine and I really feel that the time is right in my business to use my previous 10 years of English teaching and examining to marry those skills with my business. I’m excited!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
That you get to decide. This has been game-changing for me over the past year. I think I used to be a dreadful people-pleaser (I’m still in recovery!) but owning my own business has given me a huge sense of confidence and I feel I’m really starting my life at 36, knowing that I get to decide.
What advice would you give someone who was thinking about setting up their own business?
My advice would be to get your systems in place. Focus on the 3 main things that you know you’ll need (financial / email / social / website etc) and get them sorted before you start. This will save you so so much time in the future.
What is your favourite Social Media platform and how has it helped in your success?
For me it’s Instagram. It’s the way that I’ve found clients, chatted with other VAs, recruited Associates and learned from inspiring people further ahead in their careers. I am, also, a huge fan of chatting on Instagram Stories!

What do you enjoy most about being a part of Mama Tribe?
