Cathie Little

French Frogglers

Hi Cathie,

Tell us about the Services you offer?

French Frogglers provides French classes for children aged 0 to 5 years. I teach French through songs, simple stories, games, and interacting with a variety of puppets (including star puppet Frogouille!). I have just started running online classes via Zoom.

What do you love about running your own business and what do you find hard?

I love teaching and interacting with children. I am a Montessori trained teacher with a passion for teaching under-fives. I love meeting new families, and seeing both children and parents progress as they learn new French vocabulary!

What kind of BossMum are you and how do you manage the juggle?

I have a 4-year-old little boy and I had to stop running French Frogglers during the lockdown as I was with him all day and couldn’t have managed to teach online classes with him around! I am very organised and do lots of activities with him, from reading to phonics, maths and crafts, cooking and scientific experiments. We are always very busy. He is starting Reception in September so I’ll be able to teach again while he’s at school. I have really enjoyed spending quality time with him, but have also missed my little Frogglers and I’m looking forward to seeing them again and meeting new children.

Do you have a favourite app or work tool you think everyone should know about?

I use Spotify a lot for my songs, but that’s probably the only app I use in my classes. I use my own books and Montessori material that I have brought back from France over the years. I have a huge collection of puppets and I use them a lot for both games and stories, including my star Puppet Frogouille.

What surprising lessons have you learned along the way?

I have learned that running your own business is hard work but immensely satisfying. It was really a dream come true. I feel very lucky to have managed to fulfil it.

What has been a particular highlight for you since starting your business?

The highlight for me has definitely been meeting all these lovely new children and families. Some parents have even become friends and we meet up for play dates with our children.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Don’t take yourself too seriously when teaching children. They love to see teachers acting silly!

What advice would you give someone who was thinking about setting up their own business?

Being organised makes everything easier.

What is your favourite Social Media platform and how has it helped in your success?

I use Facebook a lot to promote my business, and I especially like posting on local groups. I also post pictures of activities I did in class on both Facebook and Instagram.

Who inspires you?

Maria Montessori. She truly revolutionised early years education and our understanding of the child. I did my Montessori teacher training when I moved to the UK and it has profoundly influenced both my teaching methods and parenting style.

What was your dream job growing up?

I have always wanted to be a teacher.

What do you enjoy most about being a part of Mama Tribe?

I love being part of a community of mums who also run their own business. It’s a great support group and help us feel connected.

Thanks for giving us an insight into life behind French Frogglers Cathie, we love having you as a Member of the Tribe.
