Steph Murray

Fresh Pin

Hi Steph,

Tell us about the Services you offer?

I’ve been a Pinterest Manager for about a year which I started whilst I worked a part-time job, but I have just recently made it my full-time job. I work with other businesses who’s ideal customer is using Pinterest to shop.

I help them target their ideal customer and direct traffic back to their websites and blogs. Once I get to know them and their brand I take all of the work off their hands and get to work on their account, leaving them to focus on other areas of their business. My clients enjoy the feeling of knowing their Pinterest marketing is being taken care of without them having to spend hours creating content to pin.

How did you come up with the idea and what motivated you to go for it?

I have always loved using Pinterest since it was first launched. I loved pinning all of my favourite things. Then when I started my first online business I realised Pinterest is a great free tool that I can use to gain more website traffic. I used it for many years to drive traffic to my website and then I realised I could help others do the same, and I knew their biggest problem would be not having time to do it themselves, so I offered to do it for them.

What is your best selling product?

My monthly management package is my best selling product. It’s the gift of time to busy business owners.

What do you love about running your own business and what do you find hard?

I love being my own boss and deciding when I will work. The hard bit is trying not to be tempted to work all the time. But I have gotten good at blocking out times for work and times for the family.

What kind of BossMum are you and how do you manage the juggle?

It’s always going to be difficult running a business and being a mum but I just try to balance it out as best I can. I make sure I have all my work done by the time the kids get home from school so I can spend time with them.

What surprising lessons have you learned along the way?

Working from home is still tiring! But worth it.

Do you have a favourite app or work tool you think everyone should know about?

I love Wave for sending my invoices and keeping track of my income, it’s very handy.

How do you define success?

I believe success is a decision you have to make. If you don’t believe you can be successful then it’s not going to happen.

What is a normal day in your life like?

I work from a corner of my bedroom where I have my iMac set up. Sometimes I’ll use my laptop and sit at the breakfast bar in my kitchen but I’m more easily distracted there! My week is generally busy and split up into clients. I will work on different clients Pinterest profile each day. I will have a set amount of hours set aside each day to work, then the rest is family time.

What has been a particular highlight for you since starting your business?

I’m about to get professional brand photos done for my website which is exciting as I have one decent photo of myself I can use at the moment so I definitely need more!

What’s next for your business?

I’m in the process of creating a short course for people who want to learn to manage their own Pinterest account.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Just get it done!

What advice would you give someone who was thinking about setting up their own business?

Just do it, don’t overthink it. It will be hard at times but keep going.

What is your favourite Social Media platform and how has it helped in your success?

People will expect me to say Pinterest but as its not social media I will say Linked In. It’s helped me to network with lots of other business owners and it brings me a lot of my clients.

Who inspires you?

Helen Pritchard – she is a Linked In specialist but I like her for her whole business attitude. She knows what she’s talking about and I’ve learned a lot from her over the past few months.

What was your dream job growing up?

I didn’t really have one. I never knew what I wanted to do even when I was leaving school. But it’s worked out alright in the end.

Tell us 3 facts about you…
  1. I’m getting married on the beach in Turkey in 2022.
  2. I love listening to Michael Buble and Green Day (Could they be any more different?!)
  3. I worked in an airport for 17 years.
