Tell us about your business and the type of products you sell?
I make a variety of bespoke products including curtains, blinds, box cushions and other soft furnishings which are all hand sewn and made to measure. I also sell window accessories including curtain poles and tracks, corded and motorised roller blinds and Venetian blinds.
I also have a new etsy shop selling hand sewn cushions and I’m hoping to also start selling lampshades on there too.
How did you come up with the idea and what motivated you to go for it?
I’ve always enjoyed sewing and making things and I just love fabrics! Following the birth of my second daughter I decided my corporate PA job just wasn’t going to fit in around our family. This gave me the opportunity to turn my passion into my job.
What do you love about running your own business and what do you find hard?
I love being able to fit things around our family life, my eldest starts school this year and I’m so happy I will be able to drop her off and collect her every day.
I currently only work part time so I work most evenings and often work one day over the weekend this can be hard but I know things will get easier over time.
What kind of Boss Mum are you and how do you manage the juggle?
I would say at the moment I’m currently just winging it. I have never set up a business before let alone doing it on my own. It can be difficult to make business decisions when you’re also thinking about what dinner to cook and what the children are now screaming about. I find groups like the Mama Tribe really great for speaking to other mums in exactly the same position as you, this has really been an amazing resource for me during those tougher times.
What has been a particular highlight for you since starting your business?
I would say creating something from nothing has been a huge highlight for me. I had an idea of what I wanted to do and I just went out and did it. Its a constant journey and I’m learning new things as I go. I’m not particularly great with technology so when I created and built my own website that was a huge achievement for me.
What’s next for your business?
I’m hoping to keep adding more items to my etsy shop and grow that a bit. I would also like to start writing a few blogs, things like ‘best ways to dress bi-fold doors’ things like that.
What advice would you give someone who was thinking about setting up their own business?
There is a lot of blood, sweat and tears a lot of late nights, push backs and disappointment, but in the end being able to show and inspire your children by what you’re doing it’s got to all be worth it. Just go for it no one else is really judging you but yourself.
What is your favourite Social Media platform and how has it helped in your success?
I would say Instagram, the interaction on there at the moment is fantastic. You can connect with others for advice and get into conversation with any potential customers who may want to know more about your product.

What do you enjoy most about being a part of Mama Tribe?
The support and encouragement you get from all the other members is truly amazing. its easy to feel lonely when you work for yourself and the support from everyone has been amazing. I also enjoy going to the networking events it’s so nice to meet other mums in business face to face.
