Tell us about your business and the services you offer?
I run my own accountancy business helping Retail/ Wholesale business owners get a better understanding of profit and cash.
“Do you know which is your most profitable product?”
“Do you know which brand/income stream is making you the most money?”
“How much do you need to sell to break even?”
I help my clients make better decisions and make those tough decisions easier because they have the evidence to back up their choices.
I offer specialist retail/wholesale accountancy packages such as;
#Monthly management accounts
#Weekly sales reports
#Peak trading analysis
#Loans/letters of credit support
How did you come up with the idea and what motivated you to go for it?
Since qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in Practice I had spent all my career working for high street brands.
With my children coming up to school age and the combination of long office hours I decided to set up my own business to be able to work more flexible hours.
I have so much respect for small businesses, the pressure to juggle so many different responsibilities must be intense, and to manage that alongside growing your own company is inspiring. So now I get great enjoyment from working directly with business owners instead of being a small cog in a huge organisation.
What is your best selling product?
I think many people see Accountancy only as a legal requirement and feel that it’s a burden on their time and money. However, I understand how dynamic a retail/wholesale business has to be in order to please your customers and generate sales. So, I know the importance of getting your hands on the numbers as quickly as possible to inform yourself and focus on driving your business forward.
I offer a monthly Management Accounts service which is the best way of keeping on top your trading.
It’s a collaborative process to see which areas require more attention and scrutiny. I create and build a personalised pack of information for business owners to use as a monthly bible to give them the confidence and focus on their future direction.
What kind of BossMum are you and how do you manage the juggle?
I’m all about the lists – I have so many lists I should make a list of my lists!
I have to write everything down; in lists, in diaries, on the calendar and I have a general ‘brain dump’ notebook for anything else.
It’s the only way I can keep on top of my business and family stuff too.
How do you define success?
Freedom and balance. Being able to pick and choose working hours, how many clients to take on, which events to attend, how much holiday to take – that is definitely my criteria for success in my business life.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Don’t do it alone!
What advice would you give someone who was thinking about setting up their own business?
Ditto ….Don’t do it alone – it’s been hard work building my business and having a supportive network around you for tips, advice, support and encouragement has been the only thing that kept me going.
What is your favourite Social Media platform and how has it helped in your success?
Instagram is my favourite social media as I mostly work with product-based businesses so I love seeing all the amazing products that people produce and sell. It’s such a visual platform and usually ends up costing me money as I want to buy all the great stuff I see!
Who inspires you?
I have worked for some proper retail trail-blazers. My top two are George Davies (who founded George @ Asda and Per Una) and Julian Dunkerton, the Superdry founder. The passion and dedication they have for the businesses they created is very strong.
What do you enjoy most about being a part of Mama Tribe?
I love seeing all the member features, I’m fascinated by what a range of different business people have created. And knowing that everyone has done it alongside raising their kids is amazing. Girls really do run the world! I truly believe that… so much so that I even have it on my marketing flyers!!
Thanks for giving us an insight into life behind Keynsham Consulting Joanna, we love having you as a Member of the Tribe.
