Little Wildlings

Hi Cathryn,

Tell us about your business and the type of products you sell?

Little Wildlings is a clothing brand based in the Cotswolds, that designs clothing for adults and children.

We have a gorgeous range of jumpers and joggers with bold repeat animal prints for children aged between 2 and 6 years. And super soft baby blankets with the same matching prints!

A clear lover of animal prints and Mama Jumpers I also wanted to create a collection of fun, bold and powerful designs suitable for the whole family that sat alongside my repeat prints.

How did you come up with the idea and what motivated you to go for it?

My biggest inspiration came after the birth of my second child, my son George, back in December 2013, where I discovered a love of repeat prints on jumpers and joggers. Nothing was really available at the time, especially at an affordable price so I decided I was going to create something of my own.

I researched like crazy, contacted loads of factories and finally found one that worked perfectly with our ethos. I taught myself how to use illustrator, created all of the files required by the factory and worked with a fabulous pattern cutter to get everything ready for production.

The brand was registered in April 2018 and went live in February 2019. A dream that finally came to fruition after so many years of ideas and work! I design and create everything that we sell in our online store.

What is your best selling product?

Our Cross Neck Hoodies have been an absolute hit, especially now the temperature is dropping. They have a lovely cozy neck, super soft inside and thumb holes!! We have a wicked selection of designs too!

What do you love about running your own business and what do you find hard?

I get to make all the decisions which is empowering! I find it hard when a problem arises and I don’t have anyone to help! This is where Mama Tribe is awesome and an absolute essential!

What kind of BossMum are you and how do you manage the juggle?

Being a mummy to three children, my youngest born in May 2018, the struggle / juggle is real! I fit in work as and when I can and it’s definitely hard but I really enjoy having a company that I’ve created from scratch and being my own boss! Most days I’m just winging it though!

What surprising lessons have you learned along the way?

When working with a factory or supplier to be really clear about what you want them to do for you. Never assume they’ll know what you want!

What has been a particular highlight for you since starting your business?

We will be showing at The Rare Brand Christmas Market at Goodwood on 21st to 23rd November. This is a fabulous event with loads of awesome brands such as Dotty Dungarees, Sisi & Seb and many more. I’m really excited we’ll be standing alongside them!

We’ve also recently partnered up with an awesome app called LetsBab. You can earn cash from shopping and recommending items from amazing brands to your friends and family which you can either put towards your next purchase or donate to charity! Definitely a brilliant way to shop and give back!

What’s next for your business?

We’ll be introducing the ability to design your own garment by choosing from a selection of our prints, words and garment colours. New absolutely gorgeous Limited Edition pieces will also be launching very soon too which is super exciting! Watch this space!

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Never assume anything!

What advice would you give someone who was thinking about setting up their own business?

You need to believe in your idea and believe it’ll be a success. Not everyone will believe in you and at times you will want to give up but if you believe in yourself and your idea you will make it work!

What is your favourite Social Media platform and how has it helped in your success?

Instagram has been instrumental in enabling me to shout out about Little Wildlings, connect with other awesome brands and see my lovely customers looking wicked in my designs!

Thanks for giving us an insight into life behind Little Wildlings Cathryn, we love having you as a Member of the Tribe.
