MAMACAN HYPNOBIRTHING

Nicky is a KG Hypnobirthing trained practitioner. She believes passionately about changing the way society views birth, and helping women understand their innate ability to give birth and ultimately achieve the best possible outcome for them and their baby.

TELL US 4 FACTS ABOUT YOU?

I met my husband Jonny ten years ago while teaching sailing on the beach in Turkey.

We have now have a little boy called Theo who is almost 2 and a our latest addition to the family, Florence Eloise May, was born at the end of December at home in the birthing pool after a quick and drug free labour. Hypnobirthing and our amazing homebirth team gave me and my husband the tools to feel confident and calm in our approach to the birth and enabled us to have a wonderful and positive birth experience..

I studied Archaeology at University and still occasionally fantasise about a life as Indiana Jones.

I can identify every single Jelly Belly flavour just by looking at it

WHEN DID YOU SET UP YOUR BUSINESS?

At the end of 2016. After the birth of my son in April 2016 and while on maternity leave from my job as a lawyer, I trained as a KG Hypnobirthing practitioner and subsequently set up MAMACAN.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU?

I took so much from learning about and practising Hypnobirthing when pregnant and in labour, and come across so many pregnant women who are scared or poorly informed about birth and their choices. I believe passionately in changing the way women and society view birth, and helping women understand their innate ability to give birth and ultimately achieve the best possible outcome for them and their baby.

WHAT PRODUCTS DO YOU SELL/SERVICES DO YOU OFFER?

I offer group Hypnobirthing courses in South West London and private courses in London and Surrey (and even by Skype!) I also offer a short introductory course for women interested in Hypnobirthing and want to learn the basics and find out more. We have lots of exciting things in the pipeline. My next group Hypnobirthing class will be taking place on SUNDAY 25 FEBRUARY 2018 in Putney.

HOW CAN PEOPLE GET IN TOUCH?

People can drop me an email at nicky@mamacan.co.uk or get in touch via my website www.mamacan.co.uk I’m also on Facebook and Instagram @mamacan.hypnobirthing I love to chat all things birth related so do please get in touch!

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

The creativity and flexibility to run with any ideas you have, dance to your own tune and fit your work around family life.

WHAT IS THE HARDEST THING ABOUT RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Trying to fit your work in around family life! And having a never-ending to do list that you only have yourself to answer to in getting it done.

WHAT TOP TIP CAN YOU OFFER TO ANYONE JUST STARTING THEIR OWN BUSINESS, THAT YOU WISH YOU HAD KNOWN OR GLAD YOU DID KNOW?

Be patient with yourself. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither are the most successful businesses. It takes time to build a credible, trusted brand with a large client base. I’m still telling myself this when I want to run before I can walk!

TELL US THE NAMES OF 3 INDEPENDENT BUSINESSES, OR WOMEN THAT INSPIRE YOU & EXPLAIN WHY?

Lobella Loves is a gorgeously curated luxury market place selling mum and baby products, but most importantly, money from every single sale goes to charities helping perinatal mental health illnesses.

Tilly+Cub simply because they sell the most gorgeous moses baskets with 5% of sales going to SANDS and Afrikids charities (and the founder Jo is a total babe).

Hyp Candles sell natural aromatherapy candles to provide support and balance throughout pregnancy and your hypnobirthing practice. I have all four and have one of them burning most the time!

TELL US A BIT ABOUT HOW YOU MAKE YOUR PRODUCTS OR DELIVER YOUR SERVICE.

I offer a common sense approach to Hypnobirthing – as a lawyer by trade I was drawn to the logic behind it, and the fact that it is anchored in science. This is something I try to get across to my clients (and their birth partners who often arrive at a class with a look of scepticism on their face!) to dispel the misconception that it is only for hippies or for someone wanting a home/ water birth.

WHAT EXCITING THINGS HAVE YOU GOT PLANNED FOR 2017?

As well as having a baby, there are lots of exciting things planned for MAMACAN in 2017. More events (think brunch clubs, pregnancy relaxation workshops and exciting collaborations!) as well as more venues for the group Hypnobirthing classes are coming up.

EXLUSIVE: I’d love to offer the readers a discount of 15% off any course booked in before the end of February this year.

Nicky thank you for sharing your story and gorgeous pictures with us today, we love working with you and have really enjoyed learning a little more about you. We wish you all the luck for Mamacan and your young family in 2018.
