Northern Bee Marketing

Hi Anyo,

Tell us about the Services you offer?

Buzz social media intro package – it’s like a gym membership but for your social media marketing. This package is a flexible way to get a boost to your marketing with minimal budget.

How did you come up with the idea and what motivated you to go for it?

I’ve worked in marketing for 10 years, starting out as a self-taught marketer, using digital and social media marketing tactics to promote my personal blog. I quickly realised that I could channel my knowledge and skills and help small businesses and have been doing so ever since.

What do you love about running your own business and what do you find hard?

II love the flexibility I have and the opportunities working for myself affords me. It can be difficult to set boundaries and leave work ‘at work’ especially when ‘work’ is just on the third floor of my house!

What kind of BossMum are you and how do you manage the juggle?

Organised to a tee! Everybody has a schedule and I rely on my kids being at school and nursery to get a majority of my work done.

Do you have a favourite app or work tool you think everyone should know about?

Boomerang – it lets you schedule your emails to send. I’ve found that this creates a much better impression instead of emailing clients at 3 am when I can’t sleep and am getting a jump on work!

How do you define success?

Success is happiness. I am happy at my work. I am happy because I am able to support my family but also because I am able to work in my own best interests.

What surprising lessons have you learned along the way?

I’ve learned resilience and passion. I always thought that doing what you love would be easy and that would be the end of it, but just like everyone else, I still have bad days and days where I don’t feel like being at work. I’ve learned that passion for your occupation doesn’t mean you won’t have these feelings, it just means they aren’t permanent.

What is a normal day in your life like?

I usually awake around 5 (often times a lot earlier as I’m a diagnosed insomniac). I start my day with yoga and meditation and then begin working. My usual office hours are from 6 am. I’ll work for an hour or two and help get my kids out the door to school, before continuing with my day. I might be out and about travelling to meet clients or working from a coffee shop or my office. I usually have a working lunch most days because I have to leave to get my son from school. That’s when my work day ends and then it’s time for hanging out with my son for a bit before starting dinner, cleaning the house and waiting for my daughter and son to come home.

What has been a particular highlight for you since starting your business?

Actually making it work! That might seem silly but when you’re an entrepreneur, you carry around all this self doubt and worry that you can’t do it. Stopping to realise that I am actually doing this and am making it work is exciting and uplifting.

What’s next for your business?

In the new year I’ll begin doing a series of workshops for women on Universal Credit who would like to also start their own business. I am so excited about this possibility as empowering other women has long been a dream of mine.

What advice would you give someone who was thinking about setting up their own business?

If you’re called to it, you’re equipped to do it. Believe in yourself, girl!

What is your favourite Social Media platform and how has it helped in your success?

Pinterest – I first knew I was on to something with my strategies when I accumulated 13.5K followers and 110K monthly viewers on Pinterest. I love how visual it is and that it’s great for ideas and inspiration.

Who inspires you?

This might sound cliche, but the mums I know. They all grind so very hard and hold their families together and never stop doing what needs to be done for their kids. They are inspirations.

What was your dream job growing up?

I wanted to be an archaeologist and then I realised I didn’t like getting dirty!

Tell us 3 facts about you…
  1. I recently became a British citizen! Woohoo!
  2. I’m an American!
  3. I had the world’s most boring cravings when I was pregnant. I craved ice water and broccoli. *yawn*
What do you enjoy most about being a part of Mama Tribe?

I love the camaraderie!
