Sarah Mead

Peppermint Social

Hi Sarah,

Tell us about the Services you offer?

I specialise in helping small and medium sized businesses grow their Instagram following and teach them techniques how to turn those followers into potential clients. I offer 1:1 training, workshops and management packages to suit their budgets and needs.

How did you come up with the idea and what motivated you to go for it?

I retrained with Digital Mums whilst on maternity as I did not want to return to the NHS as a district nurse. I qualified a year ago and have spent that time building the business, honing my skills and developing my niche.

What do you love about running your own business and what do you find hard?

I love the autonomy of running my own business and working around my family commitments. The flip side is that I’m working most nights, but I enjoy what I do and am continuing to learn and grow.

What kind of Boss Mum are you and how do you manage the juggle?

I’m a Virgo – I have to be organised! I have set mornings that are dedicated work time when my daughter is in nursery, plus evenings too. I love a good list. And stationary. Ticking things off feels good!

Do you have a favourite app or work tool you think everyone should know about?

I love the Preview App – I use it to pre-plan my Instagram posts, edit, add captions and hashtags and track my performance.

What surprising lessons have you learned along the way?

The importance of self care and a work/life balance. Working from home, juggling children, pets, domestic chores and day to day life can be like spinning multiple plates – constantly. Taking a little time out every now and then for me restores balance.

What has been a particular highlight for you since starting your business?

I was a finalist for the best Creative Business and Startup awards at the Business Awards Kent (Ashford district). To be recognised within such a short time was a real achievement! What’s next for your business?

What’s next for your business?

I’m hoping to move more into training and workshops this year and continue my own learning by becoming a Instagram advertising strategist.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

In relation to your business, don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. I heard this recently and it really resonated with me. Be inspired, but not jealous.. work hard and you’ll get there!

What advice would you give someone who was thinking about setting up their own business?

Go for it!! Yes, they’ll be tough days when you think it’ll be easier to go out to work and get a regular monthly wage, but the satisfaction is second to none!

What is your favourite Social Media platform and how has it helped in your success?

Instagram – I have built my business on it by training others how to use it!

Who inspires you?

I absolutely adore mutha.hood’s Insta account – Gemma has built a successful business around her family selling and showcasing the most amazing products and I just love how she is so relatable. She shares her vulnerability and her insecurities with her audience which make her stories are hilarious!

What was your dream job growing up?

To be an air hostess – I think that was the norm back then!!

Tell us 3 facts about you…
  1. I have size 2 feet – I live in flip-flops or uggs!
  2. I have a dashchund named Dolly
  3. I am a girl Mama to a 15 year old and a 2 year old.

What do you enjoy most about being a part of Mama Tribe?

I love the community and getting involved in the Facebook group and learning about other Mama’s in business.

Thanks for giving us an insight into life behind Peppermint Social Sarah, we love having you as a Member of the Tribe.
