Hi Katy,
Tell us about your business?

The Hertfordshire Event Planners are dedicated to bringing your dreams to life.  Whether it’s your little one’s first birthday, an important anniversary or your big day, The Hertfordshire Event Planners team will work tirelessly to ensure that your event is unforgettable.

How did you come up with the idea and what motivated you to go for it?

I started in events after really enjoying helping my parents’ friends at parties.  I managed to get a position as Event Assistant at The Royal Chase Hotel in Enfield.  Shortly after this I completed a home study Diploma in Event Management, and went on to book all events for the venue; from conferences to weddings.  From there I went to Hatfield House, where my role focused on corporate functions and large-scale banqueting.  I then started a family and took a step back from events but still wanted to be able to do what I love around my family so decided to start my own business.

What do you love about running your own business and what do you find hard?

I enjoy what I do so much that it doesn’t actually feel like work.  The best thing about running my own business is that I am able to work flexibly around my family.

What kind of BossMum are you and how do you manage the juggle?

I have two different sides to me – Mum and business. Oh and I do like a to-do list, that really helps me!

What surprising lessons have you learned along the way?
Trust your instincts. Be willing to say something if it doesn’t feel right, even if it is worth not earning the money.
What has been a highlight?
A constant highlight for me is my relationship with my clients.  The confidence and trust that they place in me to help bring their dreams to life is amazing.

What’s next for your business?

Sadly due to the current restrictions many of my events have had to be postponed.  However, we may not be able to celebrate in person but we can certainly celebrate virtually!  So zoom Children’s Parties are a new venture that I have become part of.  The idea came from the supplier called Little Club who started off doing door step visits with a performer dressed up going to the child’s home, then they started doing the zoom parties, so I came up with the idea of my styling design team putting together a prop box that matches the kids theme for their birthday and gets delivered to their door, so they have the entertainment and the perfect props to have a brilliant party safely at home.

But once things get back to some sort of ‘normal’ it will be business as usual and I can’t wait!

What’s the best advice that you have been given?
To trust your gut feeling.
What advice would you give someone who was thinking about setting up their own business?
Just go for it!
Who inspires you?

I am always inspired by positive people.

What was your dream job growing up?

Believe it or not, it’s this! I always wanted to plan parties and events.

What do you enjoy most about being a part of Mama Tribe?

I’m excited about being a part of a community that can help and advise me on ways to grow my business and in turn, I want to help others to grow too.

Thanks for giving us an insight into life behind The Hertfordshire Event Planners Katy, we love having you as a Member of the Tribe.
