Nurturing Mums

When did you start your business?

I started running Nurturing Mums back in June 2015, my son was 5 months old and had been unwell.

And what was the motivation for starting out on your own?

I knew I couldn’t go back to my all hours legal career and couldn’t believe that as an educated, well-informed woman that I had no idea about parenting and SO many unanswered questions about my baby. I wanted help, support and no-judgement and had zero time to read books or scour the internet, so Nurturing Mums was born.

What services do you offer?

We offer postnatal courses for new mums run by experts, covering topics we think mums want to know more about: sleep, weaning and first aid. Our courses are great please for mums to socialise and make friends. Just over a year ago, to complement the business, we also opened The Nurturing Mums Store – somewhere where small brands are showcased for all things mum, mum-to-be, baby and nursery.
Whats the best part about running your own business?

Knowing that I can control my own schedule (something i was never able to do as a full-time lawyer), as well as knowing that my business helps to support mums at what can be a very difficult time for a lot of women.

And the worse part?

The worse part is that the buck stops with you. Even if there’s a mistake that’s out of your control, there really is no one else to blame.

How do you structure your days?

At the moment my children are almost 3 and 3 months. My son goes to preschool for 3 hours in the morning and my daughter often joins me in the office or at events, or the odd baby class! We then all have lunch together and whilst they are napping at lunch I catch up on emails and sleep. We have a fun-filled family afternoon until my husband returns home around 5.30 and does the lions share of putting the children to bed so I get a bit of time out to relax and/or answer emails!
Is Nurturnig Mum’s your main job or do you work elsewhere?
I am a commercial lawyer one day a week!
What would you say is the best piece of advice you have ever been given…
Be nice to people – from the person at the post office to the CEO of a company – everyone is equal!

And finally what does Nurturing Mums have in the pipeline for 2018…

New course locations, new suppliers in the store and lots of exciting collaborations!

Thank you Lucinda, we’ve really enjoyed getting to learn more about you and hearing about life behind the scenes at Nurturing Mums.

Good Luck and I look forward to watching your business grow!
