Tell us about the Services you offer…
Being mobile I am direct to your location. I offer spray tanning, waxing, manicures, pedicures, gel polish, tinting and I am excited to introduce an amazing skincare brand in 2019!
How did you come up with the idea and what motivated you to go for it?
Having ten years industry experience and becoming a new mum made me realise how important “me” time is. I wanted to combine my previous skills and experiences into a service that I would really appreciate receiving myself, with the lack of time we have in our day to day lives. I like to challenge myself and I’m at a point in my career where after teaching and training I feel this is the path I need to take!
What do you love about running your own business and what do you find hard?
I get to do what I love which makes it more motivating, I also love being able to choose my own hours to work which on some days can be harder to complete. With time the business will grow and I can be more flexible.
What kind of Boss Mum are you and how do you manage the juggle? (eg; everything has to be organised, or winging it)
I have, have, have to be organised! It’s a smoother process and I can tick things off my list as I go. Once I am back to work after maternity leave this will be my saving grace on a day to day basis in each aspect of what I do.
How do you define success?
Everyone has their own measures, the worst thing I could do is compare myself to someone else. Each day is a time to set new small goals and become motivated to reach the bigger dream.
What surprising lessons have you learned along the way?
That community means a lot, that be online or on your own doorstep. You can be someones happy in a moment who really needs a smile, advice, a shoulder to cry on, a hug, a phone call or even a text. Being a beauty therapist we are great listeners, we even become therapists as our clients sit with us. I’m always there to help whoever I can to the best I can. Reaching out to my own local community has helped me not only grow my business but to be a support for those who need it.
What is a normal day in your life like?
Being Mama first! Currently I am still on maternity leave. I return the end of next month so I am able to be more flexible in appointments for the business, be around to take my son to groups, classes, visit family and build the future for him now. When I return to work I will teach beauty 3 days at college with the help of my mum and in laws (eternally grateful) they can look after our gorgeous boy before myself and husband return. Most weeknights and weekends I will be out with my mobile beauty business.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Do not give up!
What advice would you give someone who was thinking about setting up their own business?
Don’t give up it will be hard but try and find a away to set yourself small goals each day which will motivate you to reach your end goal.
What is your favourite Social Media platform and how has it helped in your success?
Instagram. In my industry a photo can speak a thousand words before you have, seen or felt a treatment or service. I am also able to link this to the business page on Facebook which I can advertise and reach out to the local audiences.
Tell us 3 facts about you…
- I practice Bikram yoga (when I can!)
- I love to knit (when I can!)
- I missed my opportunity to collect my award for best newcomer in my first year of teaching as I was too busy loving life at Glastonbury 🙈
What do you enjoy most about being a part of Mama Tribe?
To support and encourage others. It is nice to be new and meet other mums who are at different places and who have been in the same position.
